Director of Music  Curtis Richardson

“I really enjoy church music – I feel at home with it” says Curtis Richardson, Director of Music.

Curtis was born and raised in Trinidad. His mother, a lover of music and member of her church choir, encouraged Curtis to take piano lessons at the age of seven. He did……….and he still does.

Curtis’ early training was in classical music. He learned to sight read and completed a course of study in the English system of education receiving a diploma from Royal Associated Board of Music. While in his late teens, he took part in a local competition called “Teen Talent”. A music teacher in the U.S. (the person from whom he still takes private lessons) saw a tape of this talent show and, while visiting in Trinidad, contacted Curtis and encouraged him to go to Atlantic Union College in Lancaster, Massachusetts, to study music. And so, at the age of 21, Curtis left Trinidad to begin a new life in the United States.

In order to support himself through college, Curtis played piano/organ in various local churches. He completed his studies at Atlantic Union College, and is two recitals away from his bachelor’s degree. Prior to joining The  Congregational Church of Westborough in 2004 (then called the Evangelical Congregational Church), he was the organist for the Greendale People’s Church in Worcester. He has also been the organist for the Westminster Congregational Church, and before that, the Westford Congregational Church.

Curtis lives with his wife Patrice in Fitchburg, MA.
