Our educational ministry is designed to promote a wide variety of educational opportunities to encourage us to grow in our relationship with God, to learn about our Christian heritage, and to integrate Christian ideals into our daily lives.
On Sunday morning the children begin in the service with their parents to worship for a time.
The children are called down to the front of the church for a special Children's Chat, after which they go to class.
The only exception to this is on Communion Sunday (first Sunday of every month). The children
come to a very special service in the Parkman Chapel. The service is age
appropriate with a chapel leader who assists the children in participating in this
service. There is a variety of music (traditional and contemporary) with a musician and his guitar.
Our Church School runs all year long, September through mid-June. There are age appropriate classes with as many as 20 volunteers.
In the Summer, the program is inclusive of all ages with a theme and special projects. The Cribbery (birth through 2 years old) is available year
'round. We have a special room adjacent to the Cribbery for the 3 year
olds through Pre-K's.
The Church School curriculum is a Rotational Workshop. This is an
age-appropriate, multi-faceted approach to learning. With their own
shepherd for their age group, the church school children from age
Kindergarten to Eighth Grade hear the same lesson for 5 weeks in many
different settings. In Divinity Diner, they use food to share
the story. In Parable Place, they are in a beautiful
storytelling room, with murals on the walls and the sounds of crickets and
running water. Where In The World helps them to learn how it
was 'then' and is 'now'. Thou Art is the arts and crafts
setting, and The Boardroom of Heaven is a place for discussion and
decision making. Acts II helps the children to learn the
story with puppets and costumes, and in Moved By The Spirits, the
lessons are done through music. The rooms are all designed and
decorated in themes that accentuate the title of the room...
There are times during the year when we have Intergenerational services and families worship together. We begin in September with an Open House Weekend to kick-off the school year. We have a
Children's Christmas Pageant in mid-December during the regular worship service
(after which the children celebrate with a birthday party for Jesus), a
Children's Sunday in mid-June), with an All-Church Picnic or luncheon
immediately following. During the summer, we participate in Westborough's Ecumenical Vacation Bible
School in August.
There are no strangers only friends we haven’t met yet…
